Horse racing at Menangle Park was put on hold when the site was commandeered  by the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II for use as an airfield.  

At 1400 hours on the 29th March 1944, 6 Beaufort aircraft took off for a training flight. Sadly, only 5 were to return. Trouble for the ill-fated A9-550 had started during taking off; 3rd in line...

Expert Advice for Land and Environment Court Hearing re: heritage listing of 39 Dudley Street Coogee

This project was to comment on the status of  39 Dudley Street which had an interim heritage order placed on it. The owner applied to the Court to have the order removed with plans for its demolition. The house  is a remarkably intact Californian bungalow constructed in 1921 in the first phase of the suburbanisation of Coogee.

Hurstville's Meridian Hotel has been presiding over Forest Road since it opened as the White Horse Hotel, in July 1927. In celebration of its opening, publican Samuel Wallington put on an open bar for the first two hours; serving up 600 gallons of beer - which roughly equates to 2727 litres or 6418 schooners!

There are serveral distinct phases of building activity observable on the site of Inverell Hospital; starting with the original 1877 hospital, through the 'new' 1935 hospital, to the wings added from the 1960s onward. 

We used architectural plans and related material obtained from the archives of both the NSW Department of Public Works and State Record Authority to map out a relative timeline of the construction of the various hospital...
