It was a delight to see that the interviews collected in 1994-95 by Sue Rosen for South Sydney City Council are at last being utilized. The December 2021 edition of History, the magazine of the Royal Australian Historical Society has published ‘Gambling, Sly-grog and Stand-over Men: Alexandria and Erskineville, 1920s-1930s’. Aside from the 2000 publication of We Never Had a Hotbed of Crime! Life in Twentieth Century South Sydney! the material has never had the airing the stories and the people who contributed deserve. Author, Lisa Murray draws on and develops the accounts of Maureen Oliver, Robert Hammond, Cliff Noble, Betty Mould and Syd Fennell who contributed to the project. Hooray!!!!!
