Dario was born in 1918 at Yurong Street East Sydney. His family was unusual. His parents were intellectuals, of Italian origin, and the family was artistically and musically talented. Actors Peter Finch and Chips Rafferty were family friends. Artist Unk White was another friend of Dario’s brother, Virgil Lo Schiavo, another artist, famous for murals. Dario describes Italian culture, the social and commercial life in Potts Point and Kings Cross and his education by the Marist Brothers at Darlinghurst.
Caveat: This video was shot on a Sony Hi 8 video recorder. It was not until 2010 that we could get the analogue tapes digitised. Despite careful storage in the intervening period there has been some deterioration in quality. While we have retained the original .mov files from the original digitization in the SRA Archive, by necessity uploaded here are .mp4 files. The video is raw and unedited, a primary source document recording the occasion.
