George grew up in Neild Avenue and Lawson Street Paddington, on the cusp of Darlinghurst where his parents owned a corner store. It was a family orientated, with a a lot of ethnic groups – lot of Greeks, a lot of Portuguese, Italians, but a lot of families, and basically they were working class. A happy mixed neighbourhood. George was interviewed in December1994 by Sue Rosen as part of the South Sydney Social History Project.
