Irene webber grew upin Arthur Street Surry Hills, until the age of 14 when the family moved to Redfern. Her father had a business buying and selling bags and her mother workd in a laundry. She had to leave school at 14 to assist the family. Irene talks about  school and  family life and could recall the underworld figure, Kate Leigh. She was interviewed in September 1994 by Sue Rosen as part of the South Sydney Social History Project.
