Shane talks about life in the area in the 1970s when there were few facilities for children and the houses were amidst factories. His mother worked in the home and at the WD & HO Wills Tobacco factory at night. His step-dad was a presser in one of the factories. He talks about family life and the values of the day. He was interviewed in July 1995 by Sue Rosen as part of the South Sydney Social History Project.
