Joyce can remember the departure of troops from the Woolloomooloo for the Middle East and ultimately Gallipoli in WWI. She also saw the return of the wounded and the infestation of rats on the wharves that led to an outbreak of bubonic plague. She gives an lively and animated account of life in the 1910s and 20s. Joyce was interviewed by Sue Rosen for the South Sydney Social History Project in March 1995.
