The purpose of this preliminary assessment of due diligence is to determine if Aboriginal objects or declared Aboriginal Places occur, or are likely to occur, across 209 Railway Terrace Schofields NSW.
The study site is located on a land grant of 100 acres, (portion 10 of the Parish,) granted to Joseph Ward by Governor Macquarie in June 1815. The property was named ‘Overly Lodge’, and per standard conditions, Ward was expected to clear and cultivate at least 20 acres, with the colonial government reserving the right ‘for a public road, and all such timber as may be deemed for naval purposes’.
