The Booth Street Bridge was constructed in the context of Johnston’s Creek Stormwater Channel and associated sewerage works which were undertaken by contractors (Carter Gummow and Co.) on behalf of the Department of Public Works (PWD) across the 1890s.
The new bridge and road crossing was nearing completion in 1899 and opened to the public by the end of that year.
We concluded that Booth Street Bridge over Johnston’s Creek Stormwater Channel is of unique heritage significance, as the third oldest Monier arch in New South Wales and the fourth oldest reinforced concrete arch in Australia.
